Programme context
Training designed for work beyond the classroom.
This June programme brought together participants from Solomon Islands organisations for practical fibre-optic and premises-cabling training, focused on the knowledge, handling and verification needed in real installation environments.
Delivered under CommsLearning, with local promotion and coordination by its Solomon Islands partner, ICT Solutions. CZECHMATE delivered the training in Honiara.
Practical delivery
Training with the equipment used in the field.
Learning combined explanation with hands-on work using fibre, copper cabling, splice enclosures, fusion splicers, termination tools and test equipment. Participants practised preparation, connection, testing and interpretation for reliable installations.
FOA certification training
The Fiber Optic Association
Internationally recognised technical certification.
The Fiber Optic Association is an international non-profit professional association for fibre optics. It promotes professionalism through education, certification and standards, and is an internationally recognised certifying body for fibre optics.
CFOT® and CPCT provide recognised certification pathways alongside practical technical training.
Two certification pathways
Fibre and premises cabling, taught as practical disciplines.
CPCT
Certified Premises Cabling Technician
Premises and structured cabling, copper construction and applications; terminations and connectors; installation principles, cable testing, fault identification, verification and workmanship.
Testing & verification
Installation is only part of the job.
Practical cabling work included using appropriate test equipment and understanding what the results show. Fibre activities likewise reinforced verification as part of proper workmanship, alongside connection quality, safe handling and fault finding.
The aim was to build technical judgement, so participants can recognise whether completed work is ready to hand over or needs further attention.
Assessment
Knowledge and practical work were assessed against the relevant pathway.
The CFOT assessment took place on 24 June and the CPCT assessment on 27 June. Successful participants received the relevant FOA certification.

Result
Practical skills backed by recognised certification.
The Honiara delivery combined practical fibre and copper work, formal assessment and recognised certification pathways for a documented cohort of 19 participants from eight organisations.
It reflects a repeatable Solomon Islands delivery model: locally coordinated, technically practical and focused on skills that can be carried into field work.
